Lower the entry cost

A system requiring fifteen setup steps will be used twice. Whatever you choose, the first action should take under a minute — open one page, write three things, close it.

One page, one day

Multi-view planners with weekly, monthly and quarterly pages can be overwhelming. Work from a single daily page and let the rest be reference material you rarely open.

Make memory external

Write it down immediately, without deciding where it belongs. A capture area that accepts anything, sorted later, removes the pressure of categorising in the moment — which is exactly when it fails.

Use timers generously

A short timer turns an intimidating task into a bounded one, and it removes the need to feel motivated before starting. Fifteen minutes is a low enough bar to clear on a bad day.

Forgive the gaps

A trackeryou have missed for a week is not ruined, and starting again does not require a fresh page or a new notebook. Turning to today and writing one line is the whole reset.
