Three anchors, not ten steps

Pick three things that happen every morning without exception: something for the body, something for the mind, and something that sets up the day. Ten-step routines collapse on the first bad night.

The night before is the real routine

Clothes out, bag packed, breakfast decided, the first task of the day already chosen. Almost every rushed morning is a decision that was deferred to the worst possible moment.

Design a short version

Write a five-minute fallback for the mornings when the alarm is snoozed or a child is unwell. A routine with a short version survives those days; one without it ends and does not restart.

Protect the first hour from screens

The most common way an early start gets spent is scrolling. If the first thing you reach for is the phone, the routine is over before it began. Put it across the room.
